Advance
Directives -- Just Do It!
Would your loved ones know your healthcare wishes if you
were unable to communicate?
Would your loved ones all agree on the course of care you
would wish to receive if you were unable to communicate?
An advance directive may help relieve your family’s emotional
concerns or help eliminate the guessing about your healthcare
wishes. The document lets you put in writing your choices
about medical treatment, when you are unable to make or communicate
health care decisions.
These choices may include medical treatment you may or may
not want performed.
Before completing an advance directive, you may want to
consider issues like dying with dignity, your quality of life,
comfort measures, or extraordinary life prolonging measures.
You should discuss these issues with your physician, who can
help clarify and answer your medical questions. Discussing
these wishes with your loved ones is also important.
