Grant Awarded for Mobile Compression Equipment
Funded by a grant from the Wisconsin Rural Hospital Flexibility
Program, Upland Hills Health was able to purchase AutoPulse
devices for Dodgeville and Mineral Point EMS teams. Director
of Cardiopulmonary Services John Mason, along with Emergency
Room (ER) personnel, played integral parts in receiving the
grant.
Vest-type devices, AutoPulse units are placed on patients
to administer strong, consistent chest compressions.
“We have extended transport times in this area and
the AutoPulse units can really help cut down on EMTs’ fatigue,” says
ER nurse Wendell Hamlin. The units will be especially useful
during ambulance and MedFlight rides, when EMTs are required
to wear seatbelts and providing manual compressions isn’t
an option.
The AutoPulse technology is rarely found in a rural community
and will be an extremely valuable asset for Iowa County.
