Services: Swing Bed


Swing bed care is a comprehensive skilled care and rehabilitation program, right in our hospital for patients following an illness or surgery. Swing Bed allows you to stay close to home – near family and friends while you recover.
Your physician directs your care and works closely with our team of nurses, nurse case managers, therapists, nursing assistants, medical social worker, registered dietitians, and cardiopulmonary therapists. Our team will work with you to achieve your goals to return home. Your length of stay will vary on your need and plan of care, set with you, by your team.  An average stay on Swing Bed is between 1 and 2 weeks.  



Our goal through Swing Bed is to safely return you home with the physical and occupational function you'll need.  On Swing Bed, you have access to a comprehensive set of quality services, depending on your needs, including:

  • 24-hour nursing care
  • Pain Management
  • IV treatments
  • Patient Education
  • Wound Care
  • Rehabilitation after a surgery or long illness
  • Coordinated care and services before your return home
  • End of Life Care


Frequently Asked Swing Bed Questions

Will my Insurance or Medicare pay for Swing Bed? 

Medicare covers Swing Bed if you meet the skilled care & rehabilitation guidelines.  Commercial Insurances may offer a skilled care and rehabilitation benefit covering Swing Bed.  Paying privately for Swing Bed Care is an option as well.  We can help with benefit and coverage questions.

Can I take advantage of Upland Hills Health's Swing Bed even if I'm at a different hospital?

Absolutely.  To ensure you can come closer to home for care and rehabilitation, communicate with your physicain, nurses, and discharge planner about your wish to use Upland Hills Health's Swing Bed.  Ask the hospital discharge planners to contact Upland Hills Health Patient and Family Services.
