Friends honor Brian Mester with donation to Upland Hills Health
 
   
Upland Hills Hospice Patient Brian D. Mester, age 27, of Ridgeway and formerly of Mineral Point, passed away on Friday February 16, 2007 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.  
 
To honor Brian, his family and friends organized a Memorial Ride on Brian’s birthday last August. The ride organizers raised over $3,000.00 dollars through the support of local businesses and ride participants at the event. It is with deep gratitude to these participants and donors, that Brian’s family and friends, were able to make a significant donation to both Upland Hills Hospice and the American Cancer Society in remembrance of Brian.

Urgent Care Hours Extended for the Holidays
 
   
Upland Hills Health is extending its Urgent Care hours for the upcoming holidays.  
Urgent care will be available December 25, Christmas Day, and January 1, New Year’s Day, from 9 am to 10 pm. Urgent care patients should use the Main/Emergency entrance. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  
   
 

Unveiling of Historic Time Capsules on December 7th!
 
   
Contents of the time capsules found in the recently removed cornerstones of the Upland Hills Health 1950 and 1913 buildings will be unveiled on Friday December 7, 2007.

New Equipment at Upland Hills Health Makes Asthma Diagnoses more Efficient
 
   
Asthma diagnosis at Upland Hills Health is much more efficient, thanks to new equipment in the Pulmonary Function Lab.  
 
The new asthma testing equipment at Upland Hills Health, called Niox, diagnoses asthma by measuring a patient’s exhaled amounts of nitric oxide, a byproduct of the airway inflammation that occurs with asthma.

New Med Dispensers Add to Patient Safety, Efficiency at Upland Hills Health
 
   
In keeping with Upland Hills Health’s commitment to providing the ideal patient experience, the hospital pharmacy is working to keep patients even safer while they are in the hospital.  
 
A new medication delivery system has recently been installed in the Obstetrics and Emergency departments, and will soon be installed in the Medical/Surgical department. The new delivery system is a vending machine-type design that ensures accuracy and safety in medication delivery and patient billing.

Hospital Volunteers Show Support for Upland Hills Health Dialysis Center
 
   
Working with the hospital foundation, Upland Hills Health volunteers have implemented a program to support the new kidney dialysis program—scheduled to open in the lower level of the Nursing and Rehab Center in spring of 2008.  
 
Hospital volunteers understand the significance of the new dialysis program and have committed themselves to helping spread the word—by personally signing thank you cards sent to donors. Donors are encouraged to display these cards in their homes or businesses to increase awareness of kidney disease and the Upland Hills Health dialysis program.

Upland Hills Health recently completed their MOVE TO IMPROVE employee fitness challenge. Over 200 employees invested in pedometers to participate in the 6 month wellness walking challenge.

Joint Commission recognizes positive qualities of Upland Hills Hospice and Home Care Services
 
   
Recently, a Joint Commission surveyor reviewed the Upland Hills Health Homecare and Hospice team.  
 
“The survey went really well,” said Deanna Wilson RN, MSN, NHA and Community Care Director. “We were extremely pleased that the Joint Commission recognized the excellent care and quality services available from our Hospice and Home Care programs.”

Upland Hills Health Sports Medicine named official Athletic Training Provider for Area Schools
 
Upland Hills Health Sports Medicine is the official Athletic Training provider for Mineral Point and Dodgeville High Schools for the 2007-08 school year.  
Last year, Upland Hills health Athletic trainer, Brad Vamstad provided additional after school Athletic Training service as well as game coverage to both schools on a volunteer basis.  
 
“We supplemented the program that was in place. Now we are fortunate enough to have gotten contracts for both schools” stated Vamstad.

Upland Hills Health professionals will offer free seminars during the Senior Expo Fall Ball to be held at the Belmont Convention Center on September 20th. A cooking seminar at 10 am and a dance/fitness seminar will take place at 1 pm.

Upland Hills Health support of the Free Clinic pays off during August downpour
 
   
At the June 2007 meeting the Upland Hills Health Board of Directors agreed to support the expansion of the Connections Free Clinic with $35,000 worth of funding.  
The investment allows the free clinic—located in the old Metropolitan Art building on Iowa Street—to move from the cramped 1st floor area it shares with other community resources to the ground floor.

Upland Hills Health was recently awarded the Proficient level of recognition from the Wisconsin Forward Award. The scoring system allows for different tiers within the Proficient level, and Upland Hills Health scored in the highest tier.  
The Wisconsin Forward Award was created to honor Wisconsin businesses that are committed to high standards of excellence in their business practices.

Director of Community Care Joins Upland Hills Health
 
   
Deanna Wilson is the new Director of Community Care at Upland Hills Health. As such, she is responsible for the Homecare and Hospice programs as well as the Nursing and Rehab Center—encompassing the departments that have the most direct daily contact with the community.

New Director Focuses on Information and Quality
 
   
Vicki Scheel is the new Director of Health Information Management and Quality Improvement at Upland Hills Health. The two functions are combined for the first time in her new role.  
Previously, although Health Information Management and Quality Improvement departments worked together, they were not managed by one person. Upland Hills Health will now have one person coordinating the relationship between the departments.
