Mary Ann's Story
Just getting in and out of the car was a chore for Mary Ann and she wasn’t able to walk her normal route anymore. When she finally decided to look into some relief from her knee trouble, her family doctor gave her a number of options. She chose the orthopedic team of Dr. Self and Melissa Messer at Upland Hills Health.
“I appreciated being able to do it locally at my home hospital,” she said. “The Comfort in Motion class was a plus—it put a good perspective on it and set expectations well. In fact, I wouldn’t have known about the Swing Bed option but they mentioned it in the class. So I was able to do that and getting those extra days of therapy in the hospital was helpful,” she said.
Mary Ann completed outpatient physical therapy with Gregg at the Upland Hills Health therapy clinic, located conveniently for her in the Barneveld clinic location of SSM Dean Family Practice.
“I’m so happy I did this. I commend the nurses and aides and therapists that worked with me in Swing Bed—they were very patient, very helpful and I was impressed with the way they interacted with each other. I can do things so much easier now, like driving myself and grocery shopping on my own, and I’m looking forward to getting back to my walking route.”
Your Sports Medicine Team
Whether its out in the hay field or out on the soccer field...
our athletic trainers help you get your mobility back!
What we commonly call Sports Medicine is a field that deals with the treatment and prevention of injuries often related to sports or exercise. It covers everyone--athlete or non-athlete--and everything from ankle sprains and muscle strains to knee & shoulder injuries and fractures.
Our Athletic Trainers provide emergency care at area high school athletic events, clinics focused on increasing athletic performance while preventing injury, and rehabilitation of injuries when they do occur.
