Q: What is your favorite aspect of volunteering?
I love helping others and love being around others. I get a lot of satisfaction and happy feelings volunteering. It keeps me busy and I learn something new daily.
Q: Tell us about yourself. Where are you originally from?
I am 70 years old and a retired school bus driver of 42 years (6 years in Edgerton, Wisconsin, and 36 years in Mineral Point) I married my husband Gene in 1964. He passed in 1996 of rare stomach cancer. I have two children: son – Jerry and daughter – Becky. I have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
I was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, moved to Edgerton, married, then in 1979 moved to Mineral Point. We hobby farmed. My family liked horseback riding, hunting, camping, dancing, and being with family and friends. I also do polls at each election.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy being with family, working word search books, doing yard work, visiting friends, listening to music, dancing, reading books, and making wreaths for family.
Q: What Words of Wisdom do you have?
Enjoy your family and friends. Wear a smile. Help others in need. Don’t do onto others as you don’t want done to you.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of volunteering? I enjoy helping people.
Q: Tell us about yourself. Who are you? I have one son and daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. I worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for 42 years. I love to cook, crochet, and hunt turkeys, deer, and elk. I like spending time with my family and friends. I grew up on a farm and was my dad’s right hand, from milking cows and driving tractors, to running a self-propelled combine – all by the age of 12.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy reading, quilting, and helping people.
Q: What Words of Wisdom do you have? Always look on the bright side. Be thankful for what we have.
Judy Straus
Volunteer Position: Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
Years Volunteering at UHH: 3 years
Q: What is your favorite aspect of volunteering? Interacting with the residents, making them smile, and helping to make them feel appreciated.
Q: Tell us about yourself. Who are you? I have been married for 46 years. I have two sons, one daughter, and four fabulous grandsons. I am a medical technologist by education/training and worked in laboratories for 38 years. I then became a Quality Coordinator and Risk Manager for eight years. I’m the oldest of eight children. My husband and I bake fresh cookies for the residents every week. I also sew for the residents.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love to read and volunteer a day a week at the Barneveld Library. My husband and I enjoy fishing (both summer and winter) and we enjoy camping. I also love to sew.
Q: What Words of Wisdom do you have? Love and kindness shared is never wasted.
