(May, 2014) May is a month that focuses on healthcare services by celebrating Nurses Week, Hospital Week, EMS Week, to name just a few.  It is the perfect month to recognize extraordinary people who work in the healthcare industry and this past week two staff members at Upland Hills Health were chosen to be honored.

Karl Pustina, Vice President of Finance at Upland Hills Health received the 2014 Rural Health Ambassador Award. Rich Donkle, Director of Financial Consulting Services at Rural Wisconsin Healthcare Cooperative (RWHC) was in Dodgeville May 7th to present this award.

The Rural Health Ambassador Award was established to recognize employees in RWHC member hospitals who have gone above the call of duty in promoting their respective organizations and made significant contributions to rural healthcare. As Pustina was presented the award, Donkle noted “Karl displays a patient-centric approach to financial operations, mindful of the fact that funds belong to the community.”  He also spotlighted Pustina’s readiness to go beyond financial leadership by rolling up his sleeves to help in challenging situations within the organization, and out in the community.

Marguerite (Sele) Hufton, an RN in the Emergency Department at Upland Hills Health received the Lisa Faherty-Bilse Memorial “Attitude is Everything” Motivational Nursing Award, May 8th. The award was presented at the 5th Annual Nurses Run/Walk at Upland Hills Health by Lynn Hebgen, Vice President of Nursing. Hebgen noted that working in an Emergency Department can be a stressful environment, but said “Sele maintains a positive attitude that facilitates healing and uplifts patients and co-workers alike. Her positive energy is evident in her everyday life, as well. She has served at the Community Connections Free Clinic, assisted living centers, on mission trips, in churches and camps as both teacher and healthcare provider.”

The Lisa Faherty-Bilse Memorial “Attitude is Everything” Motivational Nursing Award is presented to an Upland Hills Health nurse who best exemplifies the traits that the award celebrates about Lisa’s life and contributions to Upland Hills Health.
